Welcome to Technology
at Rolling Ridge
In Loudoun County Schools, technology is an integrated skill and activity. Unlike "special" content areas such as music, physical education, and art, computer activities are intended to be integrated with other content areas rather than function as a stand-alone discipline. Individual teachers are responsible for content integration and technology rich lessons.
Computers are an integral part of education at Rolling Ridge. Students have access to four computers in their classroom as well as the computer lab which contains 28 computers. We are very fortunate to have Smartboards in the computer lab and every classroom as well. Smartboards are interactive whiteboards that have greatly enhanced classroom lessons and student learning. In addition, we have 2 wireless, mobile laptop carts each with 11 laptops, which teachers can check out for use in their classroom. We are also very fortunate to have available for classroom use a cart of iPads. This initiative began last spring. Our fifth grade students used them to create a video called "Changing the Future of Education" which is available for viewing from our homepage.
The computer lab allows all students to simultaneously work on projects, activities, and other assignments under the guidance of the classroom teacher.
As our society becomes ever dependent on technology, our goal is to model appropriate uses of technology to complete tasks across the curriculum in language arts, math, science, social studies and other disciplines. Throughout the school year, students will engage in a variety of technology-rich learning activities.
The Technology Resource Teacher and Technology Assistant, are available to assist teachers with lesson research, planning and delivery.
Stop by and visit the computer lab. You are always welcome.
