We are so excited to welcome a new ELL teacher this year! Ms. Betsy Sheasley comes to us from Pennsylvania where she was an ELL teacher in two school districts. Ms. Sheasley is a well rounded educator that has had experience teaching students in grades K-12, students with disabilities, and students having different cultural backgrounds. During the morning she will be working with our Kindergarten and First Grade students. In the afternoon, she will be at Ashburn Elementary teaching 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.
The English Language Learner Program focuses on four components of language: listening, speaking, reading and writing in English. Limited English proficient students are a diverse group of children who enter our program with a wide range of home language and English skills. Student growth in the ELL program depends upon a number of factors; speaking opportunities with peers, individual instruction specifically in the areas of reading and writing, commitment on the part of the learner to 'follow through' with homework assignments and most of all, teacher responsibility to create fun, engaging learning experiences! Our ELL team is thoroughly committed to ensuring that all students are an integral part of their classroom community.
