We are so excited to welcome two new ELL teachers this year! Mrs. Tara Carter comes to us from Arlington County Public Schools where she was an ELL teacher for six years. She will be working with first grade. Mrs. Bethany Rizzo begins her fifth year as an ELL teacher for Loudoun County Public Schools. Here at Cedar Lane she will be working with our Kindergarteners. In the afternoons, she will be at Ashburn Elementary teaching 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.
The English Language Learner Program focuses on four components of language: listening, speaking, reading and writing in English. Limited English proficient students are a diverse group of children who enter our program with a wide range of home language and English skills. Student growth in the ELL program depends upon a number of factors; speaking opportunities with peers, individual instruction specifically in the areas of reading and writing, commitment on the part of the learner to 'follow through' with homework assignments and most of all, teacher responsibility to create fun, engaging learning experiences! Our ELL team is thoroughly committed to ensuring that all students are an integral part of their classroom community.
