Rhonda Lopez

My name is Rhonda Lopez, and I have enjoyed teaching in Loudoun County for over 14 years. Before that I worked in the private school setting. I have taught Kindergarten, first, sixth, and fourth grades. I am excited to begin my sixth year at Steuart W. Weller Elementary School with my fellow staff members, students, and parents.

I have earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in education, as well as a master's in educational leadership; but I consider myself a lifelong learner. I believe that to be a teacher you must be teachable.

I love to try a variety of activities, but I truly enjoy reading, arts and crafts, and spending time with my family. I consider any school that I am a part of as my family as well. I am looking forward to developing that family atmosphere with all of the Steuart Weller members. Go Wildcats!!!!!

This is my seventh year teaching fourth grade in Loudoun County, and my fourth year as a Weller Wild Cat!  I grew up here in Loudoun and graduated from Park View High School, and then went to college at Radford University in Southwest Virginia.  I graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in math and social sciences.  After graduation, I went straight to graduate school and obtained my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Radford as well.  My hobbies include playing with Lucy & Lila (my 7 year old Husky-mix, and my 3 year old golden retriever), traveling (especially if a beach is involved), and photography (so don't be surprised if your child brings pictures home!).  I'm so excited for another school year with the wild cats!

This is my 18th year teaching.  I spent 16 years with Fairfax County and this will be my second year here in Loudoun. I earned my teaching degree at George Mason University. I really love teaching math! I am married and have two children. My son, Andrew, is a sophomore this year at John Champe High School and my daughter, Nicole, is an 8th grader at Mercer Middle School. I also have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Winston! I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, but the majority of my spare time is spent watching my children play lacrosse and soccer. I am looking forward to a great year in 4th grade.

I feel truly blessed to be teaching the children of Steuart W. Weller Elementary.  It is my honor to empower students to reach and exceed their academic goals while also showing students their importance in our class community, the Garden.   I have recently moved to Virginia with my family, which includes my husband, my three children Shelby 20, Sophia 15, and Jack 12.   My family along with my two dogs are the cornerstone of my life.  We have many journeys and stories to share.
In Texas I earned my degree in Education with a specialization in Biology from the University of North Texas.  I  received my certification in both Virginia and Texas in Early Childhood Education and English as a Second Language.    I am beginning my 16 year teaching with 13 years in first grade and 2 years teaching preschool aged students at a Reggio preschool.  My greatest accomplishments as a teacher are my students.  I recognize my students for who they are and who they can be.   I convince them with a soft voice and a lot of joy that they can achieve their dreams.  My students have so much to offer the world and l show them the world is waiting for them.  I am so excited to welcome in the newest children to the Garden.
