Speech Language Pathology
 
The goal for the Speech Language Pathologist in the educational setting is to identify and treat any communication disorder that has been determined to have an educational impact or reduce the student’s ability to access and participate in the educational curriculum.   The following are examples of various difficulties a student may have that a Speech Pathologist would provide therapy for:  articulation difficulties (pronouncing words), receptive language impairment (ability to understand language), expressive language impairment (ability to use language to express ideas), speech fluency (stuttering),  and alternative methods of communication (using signs or pictures for students unable to use their voices).   The Speech Language Pathologist will work individually or in small groups for students who have similar needs.  Also, the Speech Language Pathologist will work with students both in the classroom and outside of the classroom as is necessary to facilitate each student’s individual needs.  Finally, the Speech Language Pathologist will collaborate with classroom teachers to identify strategies and eliminate communication barriers for the student.
