The Liaison Parents for Potowmack Elementary are Helen Chang-Lin and Judy Schmid. We hope to use this page to provide Potowmack parents with information you can use about the school. If you have any questions, or suggestions, please use the email links above to contact us.
|Judy Schmid started volunteering at Potowmack Elementary School when her first child, Jennifer, started kindergarten in 1999. She currently has three children in the Loudoun County School system: Jennifer, Emily and Katrina. Starting with cutting out circles from home, Mrs. Schmid has been involved in a little bit of everything at Potowmack. She has volunteered in classrooms helping with administrative duties, reading to classes and working with small groups. She has shelved books in the library, been an integral part in the success of the Scholastic Book fairs and is a reader for the “Stories Under the Stars” program. She also helps with the call-in program in the main office. Mrs. Schmid has served as the PTA’s Corresponding Secretary for two years. She chaired the nationally sponsored Reflections program for four years, coached an Odyssey of the Mind team and mentored one of the first Robotics teams. She helps with Bingo nights, has been on the assembly committee and offers assistance wherever needed. |
Using her knowledge from a wide variety of volunteer activities, Mrs. Schmid is happy to serve Potowmack Elementary School as a Parent Liaison.
Helen Chang-Lin has been working as the parent liaison at Potowmack Elementary School for over 10 years. Starting when her daughter was in 1st grade as a parent at Potowmack, she has volunteered as chair for the Math Superstars program since it's inception, coordinated, as well as coached, for the Odyssey of the Mind program, coordinated for the Robotics program, taught for several of the the afterschools program including Hands on Science, was a room mom, and an active parent in the classroom.
In her role as parent liaison, she has overseen the Take a Vacation with a Book summer reading camp for more than 10 years, as well as work with the administration during American Education Week, the production of the school’s Annual Report, and various other family-oriented programs. Mrs. Chang-Lin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto, Canada, in Economics and Sociology. Her two children are both alumni of Potowmack - Katie attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Fairfax and is now studying engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and William is attending Potomac Falls High School where he is a sophmore. She looks forward to continuing to provide resources and assistance to the school's community.
