CITIZENSHIP
 

Guidance lessons in the classroom will focus on group and individual responsibility for good citizenship. Citizenship involves following the rules and doing their part to ensure their own safety and that of others. Discussions about citzenship also include getting to know our community helpers and exploring the many different types of jobs or careers which people may want to choose.

SCHOOL COUNSELING NEWS!!! (April 9, 2013)
 
April 12- Our annual Career Day will be held this Friday, April 12th for the 4th and 5th grade students. Fourteen Mill Run parents have graciously volunteered to come present to either the 4th or 5th grade classes about their careers. We are so grateful for their participation! If you are interested in presenting in next year's Career Day, please let Ms. Fulkerson or Ms. Kovach know. We are always looking for a professionals from a variety of professions to present to our students!

April 24- Eagle Ridge principal and counselors will come to Mill Run to visit 5th graders.

April 25- Mill Run students who plan to and Stone Hill Middle School will take a field trip to visit the school.

May 3- Deadline for the BRIDGE TO THE RIDGE applications for rising 6th graders to Eagle Ridge

RECENT HAPPENINGS: 
On January 16, 2013, Mill Run co-hosted Dr. Suzanne Nixon for our annual Parent Workshop with Hillside Elementary School. Nearly 30 parents attended! Dr. Nixon worked with parents on developing happy, healthy families through the creation of a family mission statement utilizing techniques created by Stephen Covey. We recieved lots of positive feedback from parents who attended, in fact, all that responded to our evaluation were so pleased, they said they would definitely attend future workshops offered at Mill Run! Please contact Ms. Fulkerson or Ms. Kovach if you have a topic idea or presenter recommendation for our next parent workshop. Workshop Brochure.

Free Parenting Classes Available!
Loundon County Nurturing Parent Program is offering parenting strategies courses that will start in late March: 
Parenting the Strategies for the Young Child (birth through 5 years)
Parenting Strategies for the School Age Child (3-11)
