Academic Challenge
Academic Challenge: History and Science is an optional academic challenge program for your second, third, fourth or fifth grader. This program enhances the teaching of social studies and science at our school and emphasizes certain facts about Virginia and United States history, along with terms and facts about geography. Although teachers may cover some of the material and terms, the concept is to have parents and students use the program to extend and enrich social studies and science learning.
A request slip will be sent home in October. Please return that form to request a booklet that includes a study guide showing the material to learn and study for each month.
Work with your child to master each month's material, or if you feel that the content is too hard for your child, skip that month and prepare for another (Everything is Voluntary!)
The request slip acts as a permission slip allowing your child to participate in the test, which is given at school during regular school hours. The test will include some of the material shown in the study guide for that month.
If a child does really well, he/she will receive recognition in the school newsletter. Spelling does not count, however if we cannot figure out the answer, then it will be marked incorrect.
Participation in this program will not affect your child's grade. The program is simply an enrichment opportunity for your child.
