As our students and teachers are sure to agree, Ashburn Elementary School is very fortunate to have access to cutting-edge technology resources. We have four Dell desktop computers in each Kindergarten through Third grade classroom. Grades Four and Five have two desktops and two Dell Latitude D630 laptops in every room. We also have one computer lab with 29 student workstations, a mobile laptop carts consisting of 132 laptops, a color printer in each classroom, color and black and white laser printers in the lab, a wireless network , Internet access via a T1 line, digital still cameras, digital video cameras, digital audio recorders, scanners, a Promethean ActivBoard in every room, 64 Promethean Activotes, an ELMO document camera in every room, one mobile SMART board, and a long list of software applications. However, even more impressive than the actual resources, is what our students and teachers are able to accomplish using these tools.
Access is only one component of effectively using computers in a school building. Our true focus is on the integration of the technology into an already robust curriculum. By combining technology and instruction, learning experiences are enhanced because not only are students able to synthesize and expand their understanding of subject matter, but they can also communicate that new knowledge in interesting, engaging ways.
