All 8th grade chorus students should report to the auditorium for rehearsal after school.

 

There will be a VEX Robotics Tournament this Saturday, December 10th   Stone Hill from 9 am - 6 pm.  All families are welcome and the admission is free!

Did you see the Stone Hill Bus Stop Bandits in their pink t-shirts today?  They will be out waiting at one of our bus stops in hopes of giving students prizes for being good citizens.  Be on your best behavior and the Bandits may leave you a prize for when you walk off the bus!

 

Girls purse was found on bus 473.  Please come to main office to claim.

 

7th grade HW is cancelled today.

8th Grade Homework Club is cancelled for today. Please go home as regularly scheduled.

 

JV VEX Robotics will NOT meet today after school.

 

All 7th grade CADET band students have rehearsal right after school today from 3:23-5:23 in the BAND ROOM. 

 

All students that are staying after for AOS and AET testing should report immediately after the bell today (12/5), to the cafeteria. You will get your room assignments for testing in the cafeteria.

 

Attention 8th grade Spectrum students:  Please meet your teachers and chaperones in the LIBRARY tomorrow at 8:15 to take attendance for our field trip.  Do NOT go to your 1st block class. We will leave directly from the library to the bus.

Testing as part of the admissions process for Thomas Jefferson HS will take place this Saturday, December 3rd. You should have received information from TJ regarding your assigned test site. If you did not receive any information and you do not know where you will be testing this Saturday, please contact TJ directly at 571-423-3770. No students are permitted in the building until 8:00.  Leave cell phones and watches at home- they are not permitted in the testing area! Parents are not permitted in the building at all.

 

Students applying to AOS and/or AET will be taking the CCTDI test after school on Monday, December 5th. Please remember to stay after school on Monday and to bring a snack and water bottle with you. Questions? See Ms. Barrett or Ms. Bagdasarian.

Attention Leo Club members: our general meeting for all members is Thursday, Dec 1 after school in the library.  We will be wrapping gifts so bring a roll of wrapping paper if you can and markers.

 

Staff and students: The Toys for Joy Drive continues until Thursday, Dec 1.  Please bring in an UNWRAPPED, NEW gift or toy for a middle of high schooler.  These gifts go to students in our school area whose families may not be able to purchase holiday gifts because of financial struggles.  Make a kid smile this holiday season and drop a gift off in the designated box in the main office.

 Congratulations to 8th grader Jennifer Abraham who has been named one of Creative Communications’ top ten winners, for grades 7-9, in the United States and Canada.  Jennifer’s poem may be found on their website.

 

 Attention Students:  If you are missing an item please check the Lost and Found tables.  All unclaimed items will be donated to a charitable organization on December 21st.  Lost and Found tables are in each House, the Main office and the cafeteria.

 

The Leo Club is helping to sponsor the Toys for Joy toy drive to benefit families in our local schools who may not receive many gifts this holiday season due to family financial struggles.  You can help put a smile on a teen’s face this holiday by donating a gift appropriate for a middle schooler or high schooler.  Bring the NEW and UNWRAPPED gift to school and place it in the box in the main lobby by the auditorium.  The drive ends December 1st.

 

The “Chill Bowl” on Friday. December 2nd has been postponed. More information to follow.

All staff and students: There are only a few days left to help the Loudoun Pet Pantry.  The Leo Club and the 6/7th grade Spectrum classes are sponsoring a Pet Food Drive to benefit this organization whose mission is to help keep pets in loving homes.  Please bring in canned or 3-10 # bags of cat or dog food and drop it off in the specially marked bins and boxes in the main lobby or house areas until Friday, Nov 18Last year this organization distributed 10,000 pounds of pet food (donated by concerned people like you) to families in need.  Thank you for your donations.

 

Spelling Club will meet this coming Monday (the 21st) and the following Monday (the 28th).  See you there!

Today, you may notice some of the Stone Hill staff wearing a bright pink "Bus Stop Bandits" t-shirt.  The Bus Stop Bandits are a group of staff volunteers who will be waiting at a surprise bus stop on random days after school to offer prizes to the students of that bus.  The bus only gets prizes IF (and only IF) the bus driver can tell the Bandits that behavior was good on the bus that afternoon.  The Bandits will never tell you ahead of time which bus route and stop will earn these prizes, so it is in your best interest to behave well and encourage good behavior in your peers in case the Bus Stop Bandits are waiting for you!

 

6th grade homework club WILL START IN C6 after school today. Students involved who need computer access will be moving to Ms. Crissman's computer lab once attendance is taken.

Victor O’Neill Studios will be onsite tomorrow, Friday, November 11th for our Fall Make-up Photos.  If you did not have the opportunity to have your picture taken the first time around, this is your chance. **This event is only for students/staff who need a retake (must have original packet for turn in) or absent during first session. All new students (since September 20th) will also be given the opportunity to have their picture taken.

All students auditioning for All-District Chorus should meet at Stone Hill this Monday at 11 am. Please bring a book or other quiet activity for while you are waiting for your audition number to be called. Good luck to the 40 chorus students who are trying out!

 

Hold on to your seats, Stone Hill! A new shipment of items has just arrived at The Ray's Reef! Come stop by the school store and check out what's new! We've got new pencil sharpeners, easel stands and stylus/pen/stands for your electronic devices, earbud pouches for your earbuds, camo paraband bracelets, more locker buddies, and the very popular mini composition notebooks are back!  Get them while you can before they all run out!  7th Graders, don't forget to come by the school store to purchase your tri-fold presentation boards for your Shark Tank Big Business project!

Donate your surplus Halloween candy and support our troops with our “sweets for our soldiers” campaign.  All candy donations will fill care packages that are sent to deployed soldiers. Place candy in a zip lock- bag and drop off in the collection bin in the front office.  No chocolates or other temperature sensitive items.  Include a thank you card if you like, lets’ show our soldiers how much they mean to us.

 

Picture Retake will be held on Friday, November 11th.  You MUST return original package to the photographer on the day of retakes.  Lost ID cards will NOT be reissued.

 

Attention Animal Lovers: The Leo Club along with the 6thand7th grade Spectrum classes are coordinating a pet food drive to benefit The Loudoun Pet Pantry.  Bring your canned or bagged pet food to school starting Wednesday Nov 9 through Friday Nov 18.  This organization’s mission is to help keep pets in loving homes by providing food supplies for families in need.  Containers will be available in the front lobby and each house area for your donations.

Select Chorus will meet today after school in Ms. Luebke’s room. Anyone auditioning for All-District Chorus who would like one final practice session can come to Ms. Luebke’s room tomorrow morning from 7:45-8:30 am. 

 

Attention 8th grade students: Dance tickets will be on sale tomorrow morning from 8:10-8:30 AM in front of the Auditorium.  Cost is $10.

 

All students auditioning for All-District Chorus should meet at Stone Hill this Monday at 11 am. 

 

Rube Goldberg Club members: Turn in your money, concessions donations, and form to Ms. DeWees before WEDNESDAY, November 9th. We still need people to volunteer to help sell concessions at the Expo on the 10th from 6-8 pm. Remember, if we do not raise enough money, we cannot compete!

National Bullying Prevention Month is a campaign in the United States founded in 2006 by the PACER National Bullying Prevention Center. The campaign is held during the month of October and unites communities nationwide to educate and raise awareness of bullying prevention. Have you ever felt like the whispers, giggles, note passing, and looks were directed at you or someone you care about? Imagine if all that attention was channeled into positive action! This month at Stone Hill, we’ll be working with you, the students and staff, to identify ways in which we can have a positive impact on each other and our community at large. The time to take action is now! Everyone has a voice in raising awareness…Think about what actions you can take today!

October is Bullying Awareness Month and Stone Hill has a number of things planned in recognition of this effort:

1.      Students are encouraged to participate in our poster contest. Resource teachers and counselors have flyers regarding the contest. We’ll be displaying your posters around the school in order to promote Stone Hill as a safe, caring environment. There are prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place!

2.      We’ll be reading quotes over the announcements throughout the month of October. The quotes will be written and read by you! Again, the flyer with details on this are located in resource. Ask your teacher or counselor for a copy. We are looking for students to write a few sentences about how to stop bullying, how to foster a positive climate at SH, or the steps we can take to make a positive impact on those around us. You write it and read it!

3.      World Unity Day – October 19th – Wear Orange…The counselors have an activity planned for World Unity day planned for resource classes on October 19th and October 20th. More details to follow!

There will be a Thomas Jefferson HS information night for interested parents and students on September 15th at 7pm in the Stone Hill auditorium.

 

School Pictures – Victor O’Neill Studios will be here at SHMS on Monday, September 19th and Tuesday, September 20th for our fall pictures. ALL pictures will be taken during PE blocks.  Payment is due on picture day. Order forms were sent home with first day packets. **UPDATE:  Photographer will also be onsite at RRHS to take pictures of our 8th staff and students.

 

Anyone interested in joining the Leo Club this year:  Please remember to submit an interest form ASAP because this club fills up.  These forms can be found on the SHMS website, click activities, click Leo Club then on the Leo website, click “are you interested in joining?” and fill out the quick form.  Even if you were in the Leo Club last year, you need to fill in this form for this year.
