Important Dates and Events from the SHMS School Counseling Department:
If you have questions for a specific teacher regarding a grade, please contact that teacher directly via phone or email.  If you have questions for several teachers and feel a team conference would be helpful, please contact your child’s school counselor and they would be happy to arrange that meeting. ParentVUE is an excellent tool that can help you keep track of your child’s grades and assignments. If you have not received an activation code for accessing the system, please contact the school of your youngest child in the county.
September 19 - Thomas Jefferson High School application opens and closes on October 14t
September 21 - Parent Coffee, How to Help Your Child Be Successful in Middle School, 7pm, Stone Hill Middle School Auditorium; This program is geared towards parents of 6th grade students and students new to SHMS
September 22 - Gifted Information Night, 7:00 p.m. in the SHMS auditorium; This presentation is intended for parents interested in having their child be evaluated for receiving gifted services
September 22 - Deadline for applying to the Academy of Science (AOS), 11:59pm
September 26 - The LCPS ELL Department’s Parents as Education Partners (PEP) Program will be having a PEP Event on Monday, September 26th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Cedar Lane Elementary School Gym. If you are able to join, you will have an opportunity to learn about your child’s school and the U.S. School System, and resources in your community. Below is the agenda for the event: 6:00-6:45: Dinner, browse resources, shop for books; 6:45: Everyone go to their seats 6:50-7:10: PEP Presentation by Jennifer Baker, PEP Coordinator 7:10-8:00: Browse resources, talk to school representatives, shop for books at the No Sale Yard Sale

September 29 - AET Information Session, 7-8 pm @ Park View HS
October - Bullying Prevention and Awareness Month
October 3  - AET Information Session, 7-8 pm @ Tuscarora HS
October 4 - AET Information Session, 7-8pm @ Blue Ridge MS
October 12 - Drug Awareness Parent Presentation, Briar Woods HS, 7-9pm
October 14 - Deadline for applying to Thomas Jefferson High School; Deadline for applying to AET
October 15 - PSAT at Dominion HS for any students applying to AOS
October 19 - World Unity Day, Together against bullying, united for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion; Please encourage your child to wear ORANGE

November 8 - The 2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards are open to students in grades 5-12 who have participated in a volunteer activity within the past year.
November 17 - Parent Coffee, 6:30pm - 8pm, The College Funding Coach will be presenting on "Little Known Secrets for Paying for College"
December 5 - CCTDI exam for AOS and AET application; Writing Prompts for AET, after school 
December 6 - CCTDI and writing prompts makeup date, after school
December 7 - Drug Awareness Parent Presentation, Freedom HS, 7-9pm
January 18 - Drug Awareness Parent Presentation, Broad Run HS, 7-9pm
