Important Dates and Events from the SHMS School Counseling Department:
September 23: Interested 8th grade parents: The College Board and Khan Academy have teamed up to inform you about the new SAT and PSAT/NMSQT tests. The presentation will be held at Rock Ridge High School on September 23rd from 6:30-7:30pm.
September 24: Spectrum/Gifted and Talented Information Night will be held on Thursday, September 24th from 7:00-8:00pm. This presentation is intended to provide information for parents of students who would like to find out more about the eligibility process for Loudoun County Public School’s Gifted Education program. This will take place in the auditorium and is open to parents of Stone Hill Middle School and Eagle Ridge Middle School students. Please click on the following link to access the Parent Referral Form if you wish to refer your child for the eligibility process. The deadline for this referral is Friday, October 9. This form should be submitted to Peggy Jensen, Eligibility Coordinator, at Stone Hill Middle School.
September 25: The SHMS School Counseling Department will be offering a Parent Coffee on Friday, September 25th, 9:00 am (How to Help Your Middle School Student Succeed). This coffee is designed for 6th grade parents and parents new to the middle school setting. Please RSVP below if you plan on attending:
September 27: A College Fair will be held at Rock Ridge HS on Sunday, September 27th. For more information, please click on the link below:
October 1 –December 18: The Step Up Loudoun Youth Competition will be taking applications for students and teams to participate in their Step Up Loudoun Youth Competition for the 2015-2016 school year. More information can be found on their website at:
October 1- October 9: Salvation Army Angel Tree applications are being accepted from October 1- October 9th by the Salvation Army. The Angel Tree program provides assistance to families during the holidays. More information on this program can be found at:
October 21: Middle School Night at Monroe Technology Center will be held on October 21st from 6:30-8:00pm. This open house is for interested middle school students to learn more about the high school programs that are offered at Monroe Technology Center. Stone Hill Middle School will be providing two buses to take students to this event on a first come-first serve basis. If your child is interested in attending, please have your child see his/her grade level counselor for a permission slip. Again, busing will be provided on a first come, first serve basis. If you would like to drive on your own, you are welcome to do so.
October 30: A Parent Coffee on Bullying will be presented by Margie Lang-Garnhart of the Evergreen Counseling Center on October 30th at 9:00am at SHMS. More information on this parent coffee will be provided over the next few weeks.
November 3: The deadline for the 2016 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Program is November 3rd. More information regarding this award program can be found at the link below. This program is open to middle and high school students who volunteered their time over the past year. Students must fill out an online application and submit it to their principal.
