Hello Thunderbolts! It is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to the students, parents and staff of Seneca Ridge Middle
School. I am looking forward to working with all of you and to continuing our school’s commitment to excellence and student success.
In 2015 we became a Common Sense-Digital Citizenship school and one of a few schools to pilot BYOT (Bring Your Own Technology). Teachers started using tablets, phones, and laptops to broaden the learning opportunities for our students and open new horizons for the manner in which they learn.
We are also excited to have become recognized as a School to Watch by The National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform. “The National Forum unites key stakeholders to speak with a common voice to leverage research, policy, leadership, and replicable model practices to drive middle grades reform. In order to prepare students to be ready for college, career, and citizenship, the National Forum seeks to make every middle grades school academically excellent, responsive to the developmental needs and interests of young adolescents, and socially equitable.” I strongly encourage you to take a few minutes to visit their website at http://middlegradesforum.org to learn more about this organization.
We have also been selected to be an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) school. What AVID does is “trains educators to use proven practices in order to prepare students for success in high school, college, and a career, especially students traditionally underrepresented in higher education.” Many of our teachers will be provided with training and methodologies that will help develop students’ critical thinking, literacy, and math skills across all content areas. Go to http://www.avid.org/what-is-avid.ashx if you would like to see more information about this program.
