Dear River Bend Community,
Hello to all. My name is Deborah Agunsday, the Dean of Special Education. I have been at River Bend Middle School since it opened in 2002. It has been exciting and rewarding and I believe will continue to be, as we incorporate the new ideas and programs our new leaders bring to us. I am excited to begin my 14th year at River Bend Middle School. I am pleased to welcome our new Principal, David Shaffer and our new Assistant Principal, Eric Fritz.
While at River Bend, I have been a Special Education teacher and SALT and Inclusion English teacher and SALT, however, for the past six years I have been a Dean serving all three grades level s at one time or another. This year I embark on a new position that allows me to oversee the day to day workings of Special Education Program in our building. I am excited to begin my new position and look forward to working with the teachers, families, and students that I serve.
I have been married to my husband, Michael for 38 years and we have 33 year old twins, Jessica and James. We are about to become grandparents for the first time and are beyond thrilled.
I was born and raised in Charleston, West Virginia and left for a time to follow my husband as he moved up the ladder in the Treasury Department before he retired in 1994. Before retiring, we moved back to the Northern Virginia area and 11 years ago moved back home to West Virginia, but this time to Charles Town not Charleston. My husband, being too young to retire, embarked upon a new career and for the past 13 years has taught Special Education in Fairfax County Public Schools and continues to find it rewarding and fulfilling.
If at any time you find you need to contact me please feel free to do so. I am always willing to listen, problem-solve and provide insight into any problem or concern you or your family may have.
