21st Century Literacy Strategies I and II are designed to increase student reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in secondary content material. Classes support literacy development with instruction in skills related to the alphabetic principle, fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing, viewing, critical thinking and preparation for SOL exams. Teaching strategies will increase motivation by making reading relevant to students' lives, and to increase the likelihood of a life-long interest in reading.
