The BRMS PTO has a new communications pipeline to parents, and we'd like your help in identifying information parents need. This will be a weekly online news brief, with reminders of upcoming events and due dates, field trips and rehearsals/performances, etc. The first email will go out to parents who have opted in to receive it on September 5. Please send any requests of information that you would like to be included in this weekly briefing to Barbara Petzen and Tom Regan, communications directors, at bpetzen@gmail.com.
Physician order forms for medication, severe allergy, asthma, diabetes, and
seizures will not be sent home at the end of this year for students who require
medication at school. These forms are accessible to you or your physician on
the Loudoun County Public Schools Student Health Services Web site.
Please inform clinic staff now if you would prefer to have the forms sent to you.
Tdap Booster:All students entering sixth grade and seventh grade students who are new to Loudoun County Public Schools must receive a diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis vaccine (Tdap) booster unless the student has received a tetanus-containing vaccine within the previous five years before the start of the 2008-2009 school year. If students do not have the required immunization, they will not be allowed to attend school on September 2, the first day of school in Loudoun County.
Parents of students entering the sixth grade who have not provided medical documentation of the Tdap vaccine should mail, fax, or hand-deliver the information to the school immediately. The immunization requirement was mandated by General Assembly of Virginia in 2006. The Virginia Department of Education has explicitly stated that there will be no grace period.
If a student has not reached the age of 11 by September 2, 2007, the child’s physician may write a statement to authorize delay of the vaccine until the student is 11.
Students may obtain the immunizations from their physicians or from the Loudoun County Health Department located at 102 Heritage Way in Leesburg. The immunizations for sixth and seventh grade students are free at the health department. The clinic is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9-11 A.M. and 1-3 P.M. On Tuesday the walk-in immunization clinic is open from 1-5 PM. Students must be accompanied by an adult who is eighteen or older and must present a copy of their immunization records. The immunization records are available from the school if the parents do not have copies.
Questions regarding Tdap or other immunizations for school entrance may be directed to Ms. Cathy Sturgeon, Coordinator of Student Health Services at 571-252-1017.
