Lunsford strives to prepare its students to attend our middle school and to be ready to advance to high school.
Rising 6th grade parents and students are beginning to think about the transition to middle school.  
On February 26, 2014 there will be a Rising 6th Grade Parent Information Night in the Lunsford auditorium at 7:00pm.  JUST ADDED - We will be holding an AM Session at 9am on 2/26 due to space constraints.  This will involve the same presentation and people. Please choose the session that works best for your schedule! All rising 6th grade parents are encouraged to attend.  This information session is geared towards parents only, students will have multiple opportunities to learn about their transition. Band Instrument Selection ClinicsIf your 5th grader is interested in playing a Band instrument in Middle School they MUST attend their assigned Instrument Selection Night, those dates are:
Hutchison Farm ES: Monday March 10, 2014 (Last Names A-L)
Hutchison Farm ES: Tuesday March 11, 2014 (Last Names M-Z)
Liberty ES: Monday March 17, 2014 (Last Name A-L)

Rising 6th Grade Student Orientation: On June 5, 2014 all 5th graders will make a trip to Lunsford for a morning of fun and friends! All students will experience a pep rally, musical performances, Q and A sessions, small group tours, and eat lunch in the JML cafeteria! More information will be coming from your 5th grade teachers about this awesome day!
Lions Leap Summer Program:  This program will cover study skills, organization, computer skills, team building, practicing with locker, practice following a schedule, getting acquainted with some teachers and the building layout, and much more!  Snack will be provided each day, and on the last day, there will be a pizza party at the end of each session. 
The dates for Lions Leap 2014 are:
August 4-August 8 either morning or afternoon
August 11-August 15 morning only
 There is a cost to this program, it covers teachers salaries, food for snack and parties and t-shirt for each participant.
Registration forms and information will be sent to all elementary schools soon.
Open House: Before school starts in September, there will be a specific date for 6th graders ONLY to come to the building to pick up their schedules, pick up their school supply kits, walk their schedules and get acquainted with their lockers.  Teachers are NOT present during Open House, however all administrators and counselors will be.  The date will be posted as soon as it is finalized.

Rising 7th and 8th Grade: Detailed information has already been sent from your child's counselor about the course selection process. Please take some time to review the Program of Studies that can be found in the School Counselor tab of the JML website OR at under permanent links.  All information that has been sent home thus far is on the School Counseling Tab on the JML website.
Rising 9th grade
 January 17, 2014: 9:00am JML Auditorium: Getting Ready for High School: parent coffee- Freedom High School counselors will be here to talk to current 8th grade parents about courses, graducation requirements, extra curricular activities, and time lines. 
January 30, 2014: 7:00pm Freedom High School: Curriculum Night!  Freedom High School counselors will discuss graduation requirements, four year plans, and course planning for high school students in grades 9-12.  Parents of rising ninth graders should plan to attend!
February 3 and 4, 2014: Freedom High School counselors will visit eighth grade math classes to discuss course planning with the students.  They will review graduation requirements, required and elective courses and extracurricular activities available to high school students.

February 5-14:  Ms. Simpson will be meeting with each eighth grade student to discuss course planning and make 9th grade course selections.  A copy of the course selection form will be sent home with the student for parent review.  Changes to the course selections may be made through email or by returning the form with a parent signature.  All changes must be finalized by April 30th.

April 9th:  Freedom High School Freshman Expo!  Eighth grade students will go over to Freedom High School for tours and presentations by various student groups, teachers
