Woodgrove Field Hockey:   On Monday night, June 6 from 4 to 9pm, we are going to fill the tables at Coach's Corner with Woodgrove families!  Coach's Corner is going to donate 15% of all sales (even take out orders!) to Woodgrove's new Field Hockey team.  Join us next Monday night at Coach's Corner - let's fill the tables with navy and green!

Do Something Now & The Green Team.  Attention Woodgrove students who care about our environment!  Locker clean-out is upon us.  Please help the Woodgrove Green Team and Do Something Now Club appropriately handle everything left in your locker.  We are collecting recyclables and disposing of them properly.  We are also collecting any school supplies that can be reused.  Look for tables in each hallway with signs indicating where to take each type of material.  It will be up to all of us to reduce waste-recycle-and reuse. Please do your part!

Educators Rising:  In celebration of Red Nose Day, Educators Rising members are holding a Red Nose Carnival during open lunch on Friday to raise money for the cause.  The carnival is in the courtyard with the "W".  Entry to the carnival is $1.00.  All proceeds will go to fight child poverty, provide books and education, help with medical care and other general needs of children living in poverty. Please come to the carnival and help support Woodgrove's Educators Rising Club.

The Woodgrove Music and Arts Association Fine Arts Gala is this Friday, May 13!

Doors open at 6:30.  Performances begin at 6:45.

Call you friends and family and make your plans to come out and enjoy a night of music, theater, and art while supporting the Fine Arts at WHS.

There will be an amazing 30 themed baskets to bid on and many raffles to enter so come silently and bid to raise money to benefit the  WM&AA department.  A live auction will also take place with some exciting adventures and merchandise to bid on.  Lovettsville Mayor Bobby Zoldos will emcee the auction.  Plan to outbid your neighbor and bring home some exciting things like:

Attention Volleyball Players:  Our open gym/conditioning program will begin Monday, May 9th from 4:00 to 5:30pm.  We will continue with Open Gym every Monday and Wednesday from 4:00 to 5:00pm in the main gym 
 
 Men's Lacrosse:  The men's lacrosse team improved their record to 9-1 by beating Charlottesville area powerhouse Western Albemarle.  The final score was 10-7.  Next up is an away game against Loudoun County on May 9th.
 
 Band:  There will be NO Spring Trip Band Rehearsal this afternoon.

Observed on April 2nd, WAAD was adopted by the United Nations in 2007 to shine a bright light on autism as a growing global health priority. Every year on WAAD, Autism Speaks celebrates its international "Light It Up Blue" campaign. Thousands of iconic landmarks, skyscrapers, schools, businesses and homes across the globe unite by shining bright blue lights in honor of the millions of individuals and families affected by autism. Individuals everywhere wear blue in honor of our community.

Independent Science Research 
Congratulations to Mr. Young's Independent Science Research students for an outstanding performance at yesterday's Regional Science Fair. The class represented Woodgrove very well, and came away with nearly $10,000 in prize money. We had many projects place in their categories, as well as win special awards and scholarships. Highlights include Ryan Taylor and Minh-Tam Tran Le winning first place in their category of Energy, and Lauren Smith won second place in Animal Science. Also, two scholarships were given out and Woodgrove students won both. Emma Renner won the $1000 Colosi Award and Dawson Brown won the $4000 Willowcroft award. Congratulations to all.
 
Newspaper Staff
Get ready to have dinner at Chick-fil-A as soon as we return from Spring Break. On Tuesday, March 29th from 5-8pm, the Purcellvill Chick-fil-A will be donating 10% of all proceeds to the Woodgrove Outlander newspaper, to the Global Ambassadors club, and to the Woodgrove PTSO. All 11th grade students enrolled in English 11 or AP Lang will take the online SOL Writing test. The SOL Writing test has two components: multiple choice and essay.
Students will be administered the multiple-choice component during class on Monday and Tuesday, March 7th and 8th, followed by the essay portion on Wednesday and Thursday, March 9th and 10th.
Attendance is highly important.

National Read Across America Day 
Today is March 2, National Read Across America Day. It's also Dr. Seuss' birthday. He would have been 112 years old today. In celebration of his birthday, the Student Council has provided each adult in the building with a blue piece of cardstock to show what they are reading. Many are hanging in the halls near classroom and office doors. Check out what the faculty and staff in the building are currently reading.
