Several members of the track team competed in the state championship over the weekend.  Highlights included both boys & girls 4x800 teams finishing as All-State by placing 6th in the state.  The girls 4x400 was also All-State finishing 5th in the state in the 3200 meter run and set a school record.  Besides Cromwell, Josh Kenyon, Josh Siegel, Russell Blackwell, Aedan Pettit, Jess Hornyak, Emma Gilles, Courtney Maryan, Asiah Robinson, Miriam Thies and Jeela Fesharaki, are all part of the 2014 ALL-STATE TEAM!! 
 
Battle of the Books Elections; Katie Downing & Sydney Hunter will be CO-Presidents after a tie vote for the 2014-15 school Year.  Madison Good will be Vice President and Caleb Thompson will be secretary.  Congrats to our new Battle of the Books Admin. Team

The Track Team competed this past Friday in the Region Championship.  The girls finished 5th out of 30 schools with top individual performances from Jess Hornyak in the 400, Emma Gillies in the 800, Courtney Morgan in the 300 hurdles & Jessica Tierney setting a school record in the shot put!  The girls 4x400 and 4x800 both finished 2nd.
The boys individual performance highlights included Josh Cromwell in the 3200.  The boys 4x800 finished 3rd.  9 girls & 6 boys will move on and compete in the State Championship this coming weekend.
 
 Ms. Crisp,Office Secretary, rode her bike in the tour de cure for diabetes this weekend riding 108 miles in under 8 hours.  Thank you for all who donated to this cause.

 Congratulations to the girls track team as they became Conference 21 Champions last night at the Conference Championship Meet.  The most impressive part of the victory is the girls did it as a whole team scoring in 15 out of 16 events.  Both the girls 4x400 and 4x800 teams won their perspective relays.  Individual standouts were Emma Gillie with 2 second places in the 400 and 800m runs.  Asiah Robinson with a 2nd place finish in the High jump and 3rd in the long jump.  Samantha Purnell with a 3rd in the triple jump.  Courtney Morgan with a 3rd in the300 hurdles and Jeela Fesharaki with a 3rd place in the 800 meter run.  Alizah Robinson and Jess Hornyak also contributed points in multiple events. 
 
On the boys side, Josh Cromwell is the conference champion in the 3200 meter run and doubled with a 4th in the 1600m run.  Kevin Hernandez put in a 3rd in the long jump and placed in the high jump, 100m dash and 200m dash.  Josh Kenyon put up a 3rd place in the 300 hurdles and a 5th in the 110 hurdles.  Other individual point contributors for girls and boys were Mariah Quintero in the 3200m run, Aiden Pettit in the 1600m run, Jenna Goode in the 3200m run, Devin Geier in the 3200m runm Hailey Sternberg in the high jump, Colin Shipp in the high jump, Miriam Theis in the triple jump, Katie Lynham in the 100m dash, and Jessica Tierney and Puneet Kaur both in the shot put.

 The Track Team:  The Girls finished 2nd out of 12 teams missing first by only 4 points.  The girls 4x800 team of Jess Hornyak, Emma Gillies, Jeela Fesharaki and Mirian Thies won and state qualified.  Vanessa Oruma and Sam Purnell finished 1st & 2nd in the triple jump.  Other strong performances were put in by Courtney Morgan and Gaynor Houghton in the hurdles as well as the 4x400 team placing 2nd.  The boys also had a good day led by Josh Cromwell 2nd in the 3200, Josh Siegel 4th in the 800 and Kevin Hernandez 2nd in the long jump!

CONGRATULATIONS TO:

V Boys Soccer Team for defeating Heritage last night 2-1.  Goals were scored by Zach Mathewson and Parker Conrath.  Assists were from Jack Eblen and Yab Hayba.

The Debate Team members Davis Leitner, Minh Tam Tran Le, and Joe Ghiorzi for qualifying to compete at the VSHL state tournament on April 26th and 27th.  All debate team members are invited to attend our after-school movie and popcorn event this Thursday in room #L514

The Track Team:  The boys team finished 6th out of 17 and the girls finished 2nd missing 1st by 1 point.  Highlights included 1st place relay teams for boys & girls 4 x 400 and 4 x 800.  Top performances included state qualifiers, Josh Siegel in the 800 and Josh Cromwell in the 3200.  Aiden Pettit also had a solid outing with a 3rd in the 800.  On the girls side Courtney Morgan, Alizah Robinson, Alivia McAttee, Jessica Tierney, Emma Gillies, Corey Brown and Jess Hornyak all had solid outings.

WHS SCA for an excellent showing this weekend as they traveled to the state achievement award meeting.  They placed 3rd in the competition for best project board.  Also a huge congrats to 10th grader Ryan Thomas as he won his election this weekend and will now act as SCA Region 4 Rep.
 
Sophomore, Jordan Bartel on an outstanding performance with the all-state orchestra this past weekend at VA Tech.  Jordan was ranked 14th violin in the state, which is a huge honor!

Girls Tennis began the season with a 6-3 win over DHS.  The girls had strong performances by all players.  They will be traveling to HHS for their 2nd game today.
 
Congratulations to the WHS Jazz band for their participation in the VBODA District 16 Jazz Band assessment this past weekend.  Our WJB received a superior rating for their performance which is the highest rating given at an event.  We would like to congratulate Luck Vacca and Hannah Chambliss for being picked as outstanding soloist.  Luke on trombone & Hannah on trumpet.
 
Congrats to the WHS guitar ensemble.  They received an "A" rating at the LCPS 2014 guitar ensemble festival held Saturday @ PVHS.  In addition to the competition students were coached by members of the Canadian Guitar Quartet and attended workshops on guitar construction, jazz guitar & the Brazilian guitar.

Drama Today's "How to Succeed" rehearsal will cover Act II scenes 7-10.  All those involved should plan to attend.

 Parents Please Note:The 11th grade SOL writing test will take place on Monday through Thursday of Next week.  Due to testing it is very possible there will be NO paging during class changes, please plan accordingly.  Also, some students who are testing in the afternoon will need to eat on a different lunch shift, those students have been issued passes and will need to leave their 3rd/7th block at a different time than normal. 
 
 Partners Club:  Please see Ms. K this week in room L511 if you are interested in going on the Adapted PE swim trip in April.  Permission forms need to be turned in.
 
 ALL 11th GRADE STUDENTS:  The writing SOL test, multiple choice part, will be Wednesday and Thursday of this week during your English 11 or AP Lang class.

CONGRATS to the WHS Odyssey of the Mind problem 3 team has a 1st place trophy to add to the front hallways case. After a neck and neck with Tuscarora they pulled ahead!  The team members are all 9th graders, David Zhang, Molly Warndorf, Patrick Ramsey, Alexis Zimmer-Chu, Ben Taylor, Joe Warndorf and James Cromwell.  The team will be competing at Sates in Rocky Mount, VA on April 26th.

 Parents Please Note:The 11th grade SOL writing test will take place on Monday through Thursday of Next week.  Due to testing it is very possible there will be NO paging during class changes, please plan accordingly.  Also, some students who are testing in the afternoon will need to eat on a different lunch shift, those students have been issued passes and will need to leave their 3rd/7th block at a different time than normal.

On behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Mrs. Stone would like to thank everyone who participated in the "Mr Woodgrove competition"  Congrats to Josh Siegel our winner.  $586 was made from this activity, all of which will go to the CF Foundation.
 
Congratulations to the members of the debate team who won 1st & 3rd  places in the VSHL Northern Conference Tournament on March 14th.  Elijah Lewis & Nick Santos won policy 1st place.  Davis Leister & Minh Tam Tran Le won Policy 2nd place.  Joe Ghiorzi won 1st place in Lincoln Douglas.  All will now compete at regionals in April.
 
Congrats to the 29 members of the WHS intermediate orchestra for their inspiring performance Saturday at the LCPS District 16 Assessment.  Outstanding solos were performed by; Allison Marrs on violin, Josef Zimmerman on cello and Julie Friedl on harp which received special notice by the 3 judges.  Also receiving special accolades was the duet between the violas and violin II sections.
 
Congrats to WHS advanced orchestra for earning the highest possible rating, a superior, at district assessment on Saturday!  Also to the treble ensemble for earning a superior rating, and to the men's choir for receiving an excellent rating.  Mrs. Morgan will find out scores for the chamber choir and womens choir later today.  Outstanding performances by everyone!!

 SCA would like to thank everyone who made the Dodgeball Tournament possible last Friday.  The $1600 raised will go to SCA's charity this year, Every Child Fed.
 
 The HS History Bowl Teams traveled to Monticello HS in Charlottesville for the State tournament on Saturday.  The Varsity Team placed 3rd out of 14 teams.  That team consisted of, Joe Compasso,Stephen Sholl, Ammon Harteis, Matt Heim, and Logan Czarnecki.  The JV team ended the day as Virginia State Runner-Up.  The team was Saajid Hasan, Ian Faletti, Jon Hess, and Ken Dunn.  Congratulations on another championship day in academic competition!!

 Visual Arts is having an art show at the Round Hill Art Center tonight from 6-8pm.  All are welcome.  Please come out and support the artist of WHS.
 
  All Marching Band, Drum-Line and Jazz Band students will be meeting at Harmony Middle School on Monday morning at 7:45am.  A bus will be available to bring everyone to Woodgrove.  Please get instruments and music and anything else necessary to perform Monday at the end of school today.  Marching Band will perform stand-pep band tunes, drum line will perform their show and Jazz Band will perform current material and Wooly Bully.
