Senior pictures are on Monday and Tuesday. This is the last time that Lifetouch will be here to take senior pictures. This is the only company who's pictures are approved for the senior section of the yearbook. Please see Mrs. Pyle in Room 603 with any questions. 

All who are volunteering for Athlete 2 Athlete’s volleyball event on November 1st, we are having a meeting at the beginning of open lunch in 611 on Friday.

Spanish Honor Society students please meet with your sponsors tomorrow, Friday, October 24th during the last 10 minutes of open lunch. The brief meeting will start promptly at 12:30pm. See you all there!

All DECA members who wish to compete at Districts please report to Mrs. Hobbs in Room 403 by Friday the 24th. Slots are filling quickly; don’t miss out on the event you were made for!

The Student Council is still looking for your feedback from all of the Homecoming Week events and activities. Vote for school uniforms outside of the cafeteria today during lunch. Fashion Design students have designed uniforms for Woodgrove students with the information given to them by Mr. Shipp. This is your opportunity to voice your opinion on school uniforms.

Attention Juniors: The Loudoun School-Business Partnership will be sponsoring the Job-for-a-Day Program for high school juniors on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 and in April 2015 for students placed at Inova Loudoun Hospital. Students who participate in the program will spend one day with a business in the community that is involved in a career in which the student is interested. Applications are being accepted online now until October 31st. See Mrs. Sutphin in the Career Center for more information. Don’t miss this opportunity!

“Run for Your Life” a Costume-Optional  5k will take place THIS Saturday, October 25th at 5pm right here on the Woodgrove cross country course. Participants will choose from two 5k courses – the “Zombie course” where participants will “run for their lives” through the woods while escaping zombies or the “traditional course” which follows the normal, zombie-free cross country route.

Registration forms are available from your English teacher, on the school website, or from Mrs. Stone in Room 600. You may also register on Active.com. The cost to participate is $25, and it includes a t-shirt.

Medals will be awarded for the best costume as well as the top three finishers in the male, female, and youth categories. Get ready to “run for your life” while supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Thank you!

Congratulations to the JV Football team for their victory over Dominion 28-2. Their record is now 7-1 and they are Dulles District Champions.

Congratulations to the Varsity Volleyball team on their win over Park View last night. The team won 25-11, 25-18, 29-9. Sam Purnell led the Wolverines with 12 kills and 3 solo blocks. Jineane Hallaj added 9 points and 5 kills, Jessica Hornyak  6 kills, Mallory Jungles 10 points and 3 aces, Morgan Minniti 10 points, 3 aces and 29 assists, Kira Riddlemoser and Ashley Russell 2 kills, Sarah Root 4 kills, Maggie Mengel  4 points and Dorothy Dimitrew with outstanding defense adding 18 digs.

The team travels to Heritage tonight. Good luck girls!

Partners Club: Membership forms are due to Ms. K by the end of the day Tuesday, October 21st. If your form is not received, you will not be permitted to attend the meeting on October 22nd during Flex. Thanks and please see Ms. K today with questions.

There will be a Swim Team interest meeting for swimmers, managers, and parents tomorrow night, Wednesday, October 22nd at 7:30pm in the library. Come with questions and we’ll have the answers.

Interested in joining the Swim Team? Swimmers will be available the last 10 minutes of every lunch to hand out flyers and answer questions at the cafeteria entrance.

Thank you to the entire WHS community for an excellent Homecoming Week. Starting with last week’s free Movie on the Green through this Saturday’s amazing dance, the Student Council thanks everyone who had any part at all in making it a week full of fun and memories.

One of Ryan’s favorite teachers, Mr. Jeff Dunn, will offer reflections of Ryan at the gathering.  Anyone who would like to speak after Mr. Dunn is welcome to do so.  At the end of the gathering, the family will have a private scattering of Ryan’s ashes in his favorite spot in the woods.

Good morning, Woodgrove. In Homecoming 2014 news this morning…this evening is the 5th anuual PowderPuff football game at the stadium between the Junior Class of 2016 and the Senior Class of 2015. Come out, see some great action, help support the Junior Class Council, and then stay for the free BONFIRE in the athletic gravel lot immediately following the game.

Tomorrow, the fun of Homecoming Week continues. The spirit day for tomorrow is THE WILD. Wear your craziest, tackiest, most mis-matched apparel you have. The Court will be entertaining us tomorrow afternoon at the pep rally. The parade begins at the bus loop at 6pm tomorrow evening, followed by a free BLOCK PARTY for the student body before the big football game against the Raiders from Loudoun County High School. And…the King and Queen of Homecoming will be crowned tomorrow evening at halftime.

Homecoming Dance Ticket Sales Update:  Yes...we will be selling tickets in the main lobby before school tomorrow, Friday, October 17th.

This morning, you will get your student pictures from your homeroom teacher. If you would like a re-take, you must bring this picture package to the retake session, or you must purchase a new package. Students cannot get retakes without a purchase. Retakes will be on October 30th. If you were absent for your original picture date, you can get your photo taken on the 30th. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Pyle in Room 603.

The last opportunity for seniors to have their photos taken for the yearbook will be on October 27th and 28th. Seniors need to make an appointment with Lifetouch if they want retakes. Students who have not yet been photographed will automatically be scheduled.

Baseball: There will be a meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 15th at 4:30 at the baseball field to discuss the fall workouts. Any student interested in baseball this spring should attend.

Good morning Woodgrove. Here’s your 2014 Homecoming update for today. Dance tickets are ONLY on sale for 2 more days this week – tomorrow and Thursday, and ONLY before school in the Main Lobby. No tickets will be sold @ lunch or on Friday. And certainly no sales at the door Saturday night. Thanks to all the hard-working Wolverines who decorated the stairwells over the week-end. Take a look at all the great artwork, but please don’t touch. Judging continues through Friday – including the painted mural. Finally, tomorrow’s Spirit Day is Career Day. Come dressed in the career you wish most to be in the future.

Congratulations to our Marching Wolverines. At the US Bands Blue Ridge Showcase this past Saturday our marching band marched again into victory. The marching band won first place in their class receiving Best in Marching and Best in Overall Effect. The band also had the highest score of all the “A” Classes.

Cheer them on as they prepare to go to the JMU Parade of Champions this coming Saturday. Go Marching Womverines!!!

Congratulations to the following students who made it into the Senior All-Virginia Honors Choir: Sam Van Vleet, Scott Clark, Christine Stewart, Darby Clinard, and Jineane Hallaj. Matt Evangelisto was selected as an alternate. Darby Clinard was the highest scoring soprano in the state. Woodgrove had the second-highest number of delegates in the entire state out of all the high schools in Virginia.

Dance Team practice is cancelled today after school.

Homecoming:

Today right after school, stairwell decorating begins. See your class officers for more information on this great spirit-building event.

Tomorrow’s FREE showing of Monsters, Inc. will begin on the practice softball field at 6:45pm. It’s an absolutely free event for the WHS community, and a great way to kick off Homecoming Week. If tomorrow night’s weather is bad, the movie WILL GO ON, and will be moved inside.

Stairwell decorating concludes this coming Monday – Columbus Day – from 2 to 6pm. All interested students should plan on being here and lending a hand to help your class be victorious.

Spirit Days next week begin on Tuesday with PJ Day! See the large posters in the hallways for all of next week’s spirit days and other Homecoming activities.

a HUGE thank you to everyone who was involved in the success of last friday's Fashion Show.  the $700+ raised will help us fund...

...this saturday's first Movie on the Green event.  we're showing Monsters, Inc. on the practice softball field behind the bus loop, beginning at 6:45pm.  the event is FREE to the entire WHS community.  bring a blanket (or bring two - one to sit on and one to wrap up in!) and come enjoy the fun.  if the evening is rainy or excessively cold, we will still have the showing...inside.

this friday is a home football game, and so many students will be staying after school to begin Stairwell Decorating from 4 to 7pm.  the decorating continues monday (columbus day) from 2 to 6.  be ready to be dazzled next tuesday when you come in!

next thursday (oct 16) is the annual PowderPuff football game between the ladies of the senior and junior classes.  the excitement begins at 5:45 in the stadium.  this is followed IMMEDIATELY by the bonfire, to be held behind the visitor bleachers.  for anyone wishing to stay and help assist with either of these events, the Student Council will gladly get you Jersey Mike's for dinner...if you let us know by next Wednesday morning.

KUDDOS TO:  

The WHS Golf Team competed in the Conf. 21 Championship yesterday at Algonkian Regional Golf Course.  The team had a strong showing with Jack Klimek leading the way with a 76 and Joey Eastman shooting a 79.  The team total was 326.  Jack Klimek will continue to represent the Golf team at the 4A North Region Championship, which will be held at Ivy Hills Country Club in Lynchburg, VA on Tuesday October 7th.   

Congratulations to the following orchestra students who recently competed in the prestigious Regional Orchestra Auditions; placing in the highly competitive violin division for senior regionals are:  Jordan Bartel & Amelia Bailey in the Viola Div., freshman, Somerset Peede.  WHS Orchestra also earned 2 placements in the Junior Regional Orchestra-freshman, Brooke Rittner on Bass and Natalie Estep on violin.

  • Peer Tutoring:  Are you a Jr. or Sr. that has a cumulative average of 3.25?  Have a talent in a core content area or World Language?  Then we need you to be a Peer Tutor!  Earn volunteer service hours and help out a peer.  Applications are due by September 30th to Mrs. Cummings.  Applications are available in the School Counseling Office, or the Main Office.  You will need a teacher recommendation, a copy of your GPA, and a copy of your latest report card.

  • Powder Puff practices begin tomorrow.  Seniors on Wed, Juniors on Thurs.  Practice begins right after school at the practice field behind the bus loop.  Any ???, see Mrs. Butler.

The WHS Golf Team on their most recent match on August 27th.  They defeated both PFHS and PVHS by 13 strokes in a 9 hole tournament.  Low scorers for WHS included, Jack Klimack with a 36, and Michael Briel with a 39.
 
The Varsity VB Team won over Washington HS last night.Leading the Wolverines was Samatha Purnell with 12 points and 10 kills.  Jineane Hallaj added 5 points and 3 aces along with 6 kills.  Outstanding defense by Jessica Hornyak, Angela Yost, Dorothy Dimitreau and Lexi Waldman.  Great Job Team!
The JV VB Team defeated Washington in 2 sets- 25-15 and 25-12.  Outstanding play by Emily Haak, Carolyn Cain, Ashton Marquart and Katelyn Hornyak.

Congratulations to the FR & V Volleyball Team on their win over Freedom last night.  The JV team lost a very hard fought match in 3 sets.
