Welcome to Weller Reading!
The objective of the reading program at Steuart Weller is to help students become competent, lifelong readers. Students are taught to develop skills and strategies needed to make sense of what they read. They are learning to think critically and to acquire knowledge in the content areas. Students are immersed in a rich literature and language environment with daily reading and writing opportunities. Additionally, they are exposed to a wide variety of fictional and informational reading materials in the classroom to enhance learning and enjoyment. Through strong, focused teaching, and frequent read-alouds, we strive for all students to experience the joy of reading. What is new for the 2023-24 school year?UFLI Foundations will be implemented for the Phonics portion (30 minutes) of the literacy block in all Kindergarten through Second Grade Classrooms.
