The Office of Middle School Education works to promote high academic achievement in a learning environment that provides equal access to all students. The Director of Middle School Education is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of middle school principals and provides the focus for purposeful leadership in implementing the school improvement process throughout the middle schools within our division.
The mission of Loudoun County Middle Schools is to create and maintain an environment which ensures that each student demonstrates a high level of academic achievement and developmental growth as measured by national, state, and district standards. Realizing that the needs of individual students and school communities vary, we are committed to a comprehensive system of support to assure this outcome.
The Director of Middle School Education supervises and evaluates school principals, and provides direction regarding the assessment of their performance and accomplishments, and supports and counsels principals as they provide management and leadership for their schools in alignment with division goals and research based best practices.
School Improvement Planning
The Director of Middle School Education assists in the development of the school improvement plan and monitors progress towards established goals.
The Director of Middle School Education assists principals in monitoring school operations, provides advice on implementation of discipline policies, and responds to community inquiries about school operations and investigates parental complaints.
The Director of Middle School Education analyzes enrollment projections and available class space, prepares the budget proposal for general education staffing including administrators, teachers, teacher assistants and support staff, prepares and administers the budget per pupil allotments for instructional materials and postage.
The Director of Middle School Education conducts monthly meetings for principals to interface with division level staff and one another, and conducts monthly professional development activities for assistant principals and deans.
Summer School Programs
The Director of Middle School Education plans and implements the intensive instructional programs held during the summer to remediate and enrich students based on identified needs, and provides oversight to Early Back programs.
The Director of Middle School Education coordinates the Washington Post'sDistinguished Educational Leadership Award and LCPS' Principal of the Year Award process.
