Dear Students and Parents/Guardians:
Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) offers a wide variety of academic, elective, and programmatic courses that meet the needs of all learners. LCPS Program of Studies contains important information that will help you understand the opportunities available for your middle and/or high school student, regarding the course selection process, academic requirements, and recommendations. This guide will help students, parents, and teachers discuss career goals to develop and implement an educational plan. Developing a comprehensive academic and career plan through collaboration, advanced planning, and sustained effort will ensure that students complete graduation requirements on time. It will also ensure students receive support for academic and personal growth in preparation for post-secondary options such as college, vocational training, military service, or employment.
The Program of Studies is an excellent reference to help your student navigate their journey as a learner in LCPS. Please take time to review this booklet in its entirety. The information provided includes, but is not limited to, course descriptions, grades, academic and career planning, Virginia Standards of Learning testing information, graduation requirements as set forth by the Virginia Department of Education, athletic and VHSL participation, and diploma requirements.
Please take advantage of the many opportunities available through LCPS and maintain communication with your school, including counselors and teachers throughout your planning.
With best wishes for a successful school year.
Sincerely,Daniel Smith, Ed.D.
Acting Superintendent
