Librarian
Hello!I am Mrs. Duke, the librarian at Blue Ridge Middle School. I am very excited to be here! You are going to find that Blue Ridge is truly a great place!
I love to read! I'm sure you won't be surprised to hear it's one of my favorite things to do in my free time. There's nothing like being taken away on an amazing journey to the past, soaring into the future or just taking in a good story. My favorites are historical fiction, fantasy and realistic fiction. I'm always ready to help students find a good book and talk shop.
I began teaching in 1988, at which time I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Fairmont State University in Fairmont, West Virginia. My Master’s Degree in Reading was obtained from the University of Virginia. I also hold an endorsement in library science from Longwood University. My teaching experience includes a wide variety of content areas and grade levels. I have taught Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grade reading, Sixth and Eighth Grade language arts, and Sixth Grade math and history. I also taught elementary school for two years in a multi-age program where I taught all subjects to Second and Third Graders. I was a reading specialist for fourteen years and started my role as a librarian in 2018.
Reading is so very important! I work hard to ensure students have a positive experience in the library. Matching books to students is what we do. It can be challenging for some students to find that just right book, but oh when they do, it opens the door to so many wonderful experiences! I look forward to a rewarding school year!
Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body. —Joseph Addison
Library Assistant
Hi! My name is Mrs. Gillis. I am an alumni of Hamilton E. S., Blue Ridge M. S., and Loudoun Valley H. S. I absolutely love working in the library with our students, many of whom share my passion for reading. When I am not at school, I enjoy time spent with my family. I also read, garden and work on home improvement projects with various levels of success.
