6TH GRADE BAND
It is my hope that all of my students will develop a life long appreciation and love for music of all types, through their band experience at Simpson Middle School.
Playing and written tests count for 50% of the quarter grade.
Participation counts for 25% of the quarter grade.
Practice slips count for 25% of the quarter grade.
Sixth grade band students need to turn in a practice slip at each class. The grading policy for the practice slips is as follows:
60 min = 100 A+
45 min = 89 B+
30 min = 79 C+
15 min = 69 D+
Late practice slips are accepted for half credit. Make-up slips are accepted for half credit. If the slip is more than one class late, it will be counted as half credit (ex. 60 min becomes 30 min). The students are given two “free passes” per quarter. They may use these for any two slips they wish. If the free passes are not used, the lowest one or two practice grades will be dropped. Free passes do not accumulate, or roll over to the next quarter, throughout the year.
If a student is ill, injured, traveling, or just cannot practice due to some other extenuating circumstance, the parent needs to write the reason on the practice slip, sign it, and the practice will be excused.
Sixth grade students are assigned specific pages in their book(s), each class, to practice and should always practice the assignment before playing any unrelated material.
