WE THRIVE AS A HIVE
-
Our PBIS behavior charts give students examples of what the HIVE Habits look like in practice. Students have visible guidelines for conduct relevant to each area of the school and on the bus. We are proud of our students who strive to embody our habits and work to make Harmony a better community. To show our appreciation, teachers nominate students who demonstrate Hive Habits. These students are recognized on our weekly news show Live From the Hive. In addition, our deans recognize students each week in the Dean Dozen.
Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS)
1. What is PBIS?PBIS ensures that all students have access to the most effective and accurately implemented instructional behavioral practices and interventions possible. The PBIS Team at Harmony Middle School leads the implementation of PBIS through a program of school-wide positive behavior expectations, incentives, and recognition opportunities for students and staff.2. What Does PBIS Emphasize? In general, PBIS emphasizes four integrated elements:
(a) data for decision making,
(b) measurable outcomes supported and evaluated by data,
(c) practices with evidence that these outcomes are achievable, and
(d) systems that efficiently and effectively support implementation of these practices.3. What Outcomes are Associated with Implementation of PBIS?Schools that establish systems with the capacity to implement PBIS with integrity and durability have teaching and learning environments that are
- More engaging, responsive, preventive, and productive
- Address classroom management and disciplinary issues
- Improve supports for students and
- Most importantly, maximize academic engagement and achievement for all students
