Library Curriculum 2021-2022
First & Second Quarters
Kindergarten students will:* become familiar with the school library (locate the library, identify the library as a place that has books to borrow)
*become familiar with library rules - respecting yourself, others & property
demonstrate proper care of books
*identify parts of books
*make text-to-text connections
*identify the rhyming patterns in books, enjoy a variety of theme books (apples, number count down, holidays, fall activities) enjoy eBooks from MackinVIA, and from TumbleBooks.com
First Grade students will:
*state library rules - respecting yourself, others & property
*review library procedures
*continue to demonstrate proper book care
*locate library materials (Everybody section, Leveled books, Easy Non-fiction)
*identify the parts of a book including the title, dedication and copyright pages
*differentiate between fiction & nonfiction
*begin to develop an understanding of call numbers - given the author's last name locate the shelf on which the book belongs
*state various strategies that good readers use
*make text-to-text & text-to-self connections, enjoy eBooks from MackinVia, and from TumbleBooks.com
Second Grade students will:
*state library rules - respecting yourself, others & property
*review library procedures
*continue to demonstrate proper book care
*locate library materials (Everybody, Fiction, Non-fiction, & Biography sections)
*determine the main idea and sequence of events
*be introduced to library resources (dictionary, general encyclopedia, children's atlas)enjoy eBooks from MackinVIA and from TumbleBooks.com and TumbleBookCloud.com
Third Grade students will:
*state library rules - respecting yourself, others & property
*review library procedures
*continue to demonstrate proper book care
*locate library materials (Everybody, Fiction, Non-fiction, & Biography & Reference sections)
*demonstrate knowledge of a variety of library resources, online & print (dictionary, general encyclopedia, index of an encyclopedia, atlas, newspaper)enjoy eBooks from MackinVIA and TumbleBookCloud.com
Fourth & Fifth Grade students will:*demonstrate knowledge of library rules - respecting yourself, others & property*demonstrate knowledge of correct library procedures & book care
*locate library materials in all sections (Everybody, Fiction, Non-fiction, Reference & Biography) of the library use an index to find specific information on a topic
*access MackinVIA, use LCPS online databases to locate current, up-to-date information on a topic
