Mr. Shoremount is currently in his 30th year of teaching. He is currently the band director of Harmony Middle School in Loudoun County. Since the school first opened as Harmony Intermediate School in 2002, the band has become the single largest student organization, receiving many Superior ratings in both Concert & Jazz Competitions and Music Festivals. In the spring of 2009, the Harmony Band became the first band with its students grade level to achieve a "Superior Rating" in VBODA Grade 5 Music. In 2010, the Harmony Band was awarded the prestigious, "Presidents Award," at the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival's Concert Band Competition.
Prior to coming to Aylor Middle School, Mr. Shoremount was a member of the Jazz Faculty of Shenandoah Conservatory, as instructor of the Jazz Lab Band, Improvisation, and Applied Jazz Trombone. Mr. Shoremount has been a trombonist with various bands in New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia. Currently, he performs regularly with "Jumptown," a rhythm and blues, soul band. The bands web site is www.jumptownband.com He has studies in trombone, brass pedagogy, and jazz studies with Robert Schectman, William Seeman, Dr. Verne Collins, Alan Wright, Fred Marzan, Chris Pedersen, director of the Garden State Symphonic Band, and Dr.Donald S. Reinhardt, designer and author of the "Pivot System." In 1998, Mr. Shoremount was named Aylor Middle School’s Teacher of The Year. Mr Shoremount has directed All-District Bands in Virginia, and is an adjudicator for both Concert and Jazz Festivals. He is listed in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, 1998, 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2008 editions. He is the District Chairman of VBODA District 16, and he is a former Instrumental Representative for District 14 of V.B.O.D.A. Mr. Shoremount is a member of Phi Beta Mu Honorary Band Fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Virginia Music Educators Association, Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association, and the International Jazz Educators Association.
