{Dr. Hatrick} Edgar B. Hatrick, III, superintendent of Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS), was elected 2009-10 president-elect of the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) on April 17th.
Hatrick has been a member of AASA for 22 years and has served on the AASA Executive Committee and the AASA Governing Board.
“Ed is a veteran school leader and AASA member who is committed to the work of the association and our members,” said AASA President Randall Collins, superintendent of schools in Waterford, Conn. “I look forward to working closely with Ed as a member of the AASA leadership team.”
“AASA and school leaders are living through times of great organizational, economic and social change. The challenges we face provide significant opportunities for the growth of AASA, and I am honored to have this opportunity to use my experience as a superintendent to help lead AASA,” said Hatrick. “We must work with Congress, the new administration and other educational organizations to bring fairness and validity to the standards set under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. As president-elect, I will seek to represent AASA's members to the best of my ability and work to increase membership so we can continue as a strong national voice for America's children. I learned long ago that if we frame our decisions in what is right for children, we cannot fail.”
Hatrick has served as superintendent in Loudoun County since 1991. His entire career in education, which began in 1967, has been spent with LCPS. Previously, he was assistant superintendent for planning and pupil services (1987-91); director of instruction (1983-87); foreign language supervisor (1983-87); guidance supervisor (1984-88); director of special education (1978-83); principal of Loudoun County High School (1975-78); assistant principal of Broad Run High School (1970-75); chair of the English Department at Broad Run (1969-70); and an English teacher at Loudoun County High School. He served as president of the Virginia Association of School Superintendents and the Washington Area Superintendents' Study Council. He has been a guest lecturer at University of Virginia, George Mason University, Shenandoah University and Marymount University. He received his doctorate and master's degrees in education from Virginia Tech and his bachelor's degree in English from the University of Richmond.
Hatrick is a 1963 graduate of Loudoun County High School.

Mark T. Bielang, superintendent of schools in Paw Paw, Mich., will be installed as 2009-10 AASA president and Hatrick will be sworn in as 2009-10 AASA president-elect on July 16 during a ceremony held in conjunction with AASA's summer governance meetings and the AASA Seattle Summit in Seattle, Wash.
